Training & Development
Whether you're interested in a sales position, field management,
distribution center work or corporate employment, Trans World is a place where you can
start your career and acquire valuable skills and knowledge to grow. We offer basic training
to get you started in your position, management development to help you move to other
opportunities, as well as internships and opportunities for recent college graduates
to gain valuable "real world" experience while still in school. Some of these programs
are sampled below.
Sales and Service Training
Sales associates receive initial training to become knowledgeable
about our products and our customers' needs. Our training and coaching approach encourages
sales associates to provide friendly service without being overly aggressive. Our training is
founded on industry standards of retail sales associate skills that are supported by the
National Retail Federation skill standards. A customer-centered selling philosophy
permeates our stores and all areas of the company, including the home office. We
train our sales associates to strive in all aspects of store operations to make our
stores comfortable places to shop, to browse and to sample music, movies and games
on our state-of-the art listening and viewing system (LVS). Our sales associates
are trained to perform their jobs in support of this approach.
Store Management Development
We support the development of our associates upward to store management.
Through training and development, associates can grow into lead associate and assistant
management positions. With entry into our Manager-in-Training program, they can become
store managers of their own stores over time and can become Training Store Managers, assisting
others to achieve the same success.
District Management Development
Trans World's District Manager Development Program assists in
identifying high potential store managers to move to the next level of multi-unit management.
As a District Manager Candidate, managers continue to operate their own stores and direct
2-3 other stores as well. They are assigned to a mentor in upper level field management
to train and coach their development. District Managers in Training then become
responsible for 5-8 stores under the coaching of their mentors. Each position
progressively offers a higher level of responsibility for multi-unit management.
Your stores are located in a close geographical area that affords you travel as
you develop under the mentorship of a high-performing District or Regional Manager.
Internships
We encourage talented undergraduate community college and four-year college students
to join us in both our corporate offices and our stores for a challenging, hands-on retail
experience. Under seasoned managers, these people receive job assignments and coaching that
develops their business skills and knowledge of the retail world. Our company boasts of
many former part-time sales associates who have grown over their time with the company
in this way.
Computer Skills Training
Trans World offers computer skills training needed to support the performance of
associates in their positions both in the corporate offices and in the field.
Training is offered by fully accredited and nationally recognized vendors.
Online learning is fast becoming a method of training delivery as well.
